Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do you mean by "independent living?"

A: Our residents are self-reliant, as they would be if they lived in their own home, and engage in all day-to-day living activities such as meal preparation, driving to the store, shopping, personal care and all other necessities. We also accommodate residents who can live independently with the help of a spouse or part-time assistant. Our staff does not provide healthcare assistance. We enable seniors to live independently while also enjoying the community and fellowship of capable peers in a supportive environment.

Q: Is there parking near the apartments?

A: Yes, parking lots are located near each apartment building and some buildings feature carports.

Q: Does each apartment have a kitchen?

A: Yes, each has a full galley kitchen that includes an oven and refrigerator.

Q: What are the apartment sizes?

A: Our two North Campus apartment buildings feature 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments that range in size from 552 sq. ft. to 944 sq. ft. Our South Campus is comprised of duplex, 4-plex and 6-plex cottages with apartments featuring more closet space, decks and other features. They range in size from 624 sq. ft. to 1176 sq. ft.

Q: If I have overnight visitors, where can they stay?

A: A guest apartment on the grounds that sleeps four can be reserved by calling in advance. Also, there are several hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts in nearby Kittery and surrounding areas. Guests can also stay overnight in resident apartments if not overcrowded.

Q: What are your residency requirements?

A: You must be at least 55 years of age, be capable of living independently and meet monthly rent payments. A security deposit of one month's rent is the only other requirement.

Q: What is your rental payment policy?

A: There are no entrance fees and no lease is required. You may rent on a month-to-month basis and pay rent one month in advance.

Q: How do I apply for residency?

A: To start, schedule an interview with our Executive Director, Larry Knowles, by calling 207-439-7280. In the event that we are at full occupancy, you may be placed on our waiting list on a first-come-first-served basis for an apartment opening.

What They Say

“ I have lived at Meetinghouse Village for nearly 10 years - almost three years with my husband and seven years alone, since he passed away. It's a very pleasant and affordable place with no worries about maintenance and costly repairs. There's a lot to do: social events, game nights, movies, gardening, etc. if you wish to participate. We also have a hair salon, exercise rooms, woodworking shop, laundry room and mail room, all under our roof. I have quiet, friendly neighbors, and I feel happy and safe living here. I couldn't find a better place to live on my income. ”
